BBC Jobs Reporter : BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels. As part of an historic and exciting expansion, the BBC World Service is introducing four new language services serving audiences in India – Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi and Telugu – to work alongside two existing services, BBC Hindi and BBC Tamil.All six Indian language services will be based predominantly in the BBC’s Delhi bureau, working closely and collaboratively with all teams in that office and with teams in the BBC’s headquarters in London to deliver the best service for BBC audiences.All Language Services are multiplatform, with a multimedia website with a focus on digital video, text, interactivity for both desktop and mobile platforms, and a daily TV news programmes for each service. Each service aims to make international news relevant to an Indian audience, and bring international perspectives to bear on Indian and global developments.We are looking for a Reporter to be based in Islamabad.
Role Responsibility
As reporter you will play a crucial role within this new structure, with TV and digital output. Not only will you be providing timely, expert and authoritative coverage of news and current affairs events in South Asia, but you will also be advising teams on stories in the patch for wider BBC consumption. You will be required to report for multi-platform outlets, including television, online and radio in Urdu or English.You will advise the Planning Editor and the wider BBC about news topics and events on a daily basis and will pitch original stories with digital treatments, making sure that they work for online, social and TV platforms.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a fluent Urdu speaker and writer with an excellent command of English. You will have demonstrable experience as a journalist or a TV reporter in a broadcasting environment. With a strong screen presence and broadcasting voice, you will have excellent experience of reporting on international and South Asian current affairs with an in-depth knowledge of issues in the target region and target audience.
