K Electric KE Jobs Talent Pool Transmission
K Electric KE Jobs Talent Pool Transmission: K-Electric (KE) is Pakistan’s only vertically integrated power utility generating, transmitting and distributing electricity to industrial, commercial, agricultural and residential consumers of Karachi and its outskirts.
KE is committed to enhancing its power infrastructure and has invested significantly in expanding its transmission network, through the installation of new grid stations and transmission lines.
In view of upcoming infrastructure expansions, we are connecting with potential candidates to develop a talent pool for future opportunities in the Transmission Business.
Avenues in Transmission:
With a network of power systems spread across Karachi and its environs (over 1,253km of 220kV, 132kV and 66kV transmission lines and 64 grid stations), the scope of responsibilities and execution associated with Transmission at KE is manifold. The multiple departments in this group include:
- Load Dispatch Centre (LDC) – System Operations
The heart of the Transmission system is active round the clock to monitor, control and operate KE’s entire EHT network from generating stations to grid stations. It ensures the prompt restoration of the power supply after a breakdown, and manages shut downs for preventive and corrective maintenance. Economic dispatch, operational planning and load shed management also fall under the umbrella of LDC.
- Grid System Maintenance
This team ensures uninterrupted power supply from grid stations through proper maintenance, rehabilitation and augmentation of 220/132/66kV equipment, including EHV switchgears (AIS/GIS/HIS), auto transformers and power transformers. They are involved in trouble shooting of time to time faults at grid stations, and planning and execution of preventive maintenance for EHV equipment.
- Grid System Protection
Protection team is the custodian of all protective equipment installed in the EHT system and attends associated faults in coordination with Maintenance Engineers. It designs, implements and tests the various protection schemes to cope with changes in the system configuration. Our Protection Engineers are also involved in protection co-ordination studies and the testing of relays, power transformers, instrument transformers, bus par protection and tele protection equipment.
- Transmission Line Maintenance
This department maintains the transmission lines and underground cables. They identify and attend line faults and ensure regular cleaning and replacement of hardware to keep EHV overhead lines and underground cables energized and running. The underground cables team also monitors the operational parameters of underground cable including oil pressure and temperature, and conducts routine checks of all terminal equipment.
- SCADA Department
SCADA section maintains overall SCADA and RTU systems (master station and outstations) to enable real time monitoring and control of the EHT Network. The team also manages the entire Master Station, Sub-systems (UPS & Battery sub-system, Time & Frequency system, BARCO Wall, Tele control interface etc) in addition to the administration of Sinaut Spectrum Application, Substation Automation System (SAS) and RTU Outstation works at all grid stations.
- Telecom Department
Telecom section enables smooth communication between the master station and out stations through SCADA Data Channels in the entire EHT Network. Our Telecom Engineers look after tele-protection of 220KV / 132kV transmission lines, VHF Wireless Communication, and maintenance of PLC, SDH, PSE, Wireless Antennas and other telecom equipment.
- Project Implementation Department
This department manages the planning, development and execution of new grid station and transmission line projects for the augmentation and expansion of the EHT Network. Our Planning Engineers conceive the projects through power system studies, pre-qualification, tendering, bid evaluation and contract management. While Project Engineers are involved in design and execution activities and are usually deputed at project sites supervising the contractors.
